Look around, this house is a disaster.
Why can’t you work faster
   When I ask?
Someone tell me, when the day is through,
Why can’t she even do
   A simple task?

Cinderella! Hurry with the sweeping.
Girl, you must be sleeping.
Cinderella! You have lots of work to do!

I have never seen a girl so lazy.
Maybe she is crazy.
   I don’t know.
Must be stupid, she can’t even clean.
She’s slovenly and mean
   And oh! so slow.

Cinderella! Don’t you even hear me?
You had better fear me!
Cinderella! Wait till I get through with you!

If the Prince had paid attention,
He’d have seen my girls; I know he would.
We’d have wealth beyond all mention
And be rid of you for good.

But for now it looks as though we’re stuck here,
Living in the muck here;
   It’s not fair!
Come along, it’s time to do your chores.
[Gerta:] Now go and scrub the floors.
[Berta:] Yes, do it on all fours.
Stepmother: And wash the walls, the windows, and the doors,
You haven’t any time to spare!

You’re so slow, I don’t know what to do.
Just wait till I get through with you!
