This translation is a work in progress, intended, among other things, as a personal exercise in the use of Loglan; I hope to complete it in six months to a year. Criticism by logli is cordially invited; I have used the Loglan Interactive Parser to verify that all utterances parse as intended, but have had to be somewhat inventive in matters of vocabulary and, occasionally, idiom. 1 Loglan is understandably short on words of this sort. I’m somewhat arbitrarily rendering wizard as gramadji and sorcerer as folmadji.

3 This is the original and authentic title of the book. When the George M. Hill Company failed in 1902 (apparently as the result of an undercapitalized expansion motivated by the tremendous success of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz), the plates were eventually picked up by Bobbs-Merrill, and the book was reissued in 1903 as, for reasons that are not clear, The New Wizard of Oz. The “New” continued on Bobbs-Merrill editions, which were the standard in the U.S.A. until the copyright ran out in 1956, but foreign editions, adaptations, and special licensed editions, whether called simply The Wizard of Oz or given expanded titles such as The Story of the Wizard of Oz or The Wizard of Oz Waddle Book (which included cardboard toys that could be cut out and assembled to “waddle” down an inclined plane), eschewed both “New” and “Wonderful”.
